Greece Public Library Renovations 2012!

Renovations to the Greece Public Library Begin! Check Often for Updates!

1/10/2012

As part of an ongoing commitment to provide the best services and amenities, Supervisor John Auberger and the Greece Town Board are pleased to announce the beginning of renovations to the Greece Public Library. This project includes the creation of a larger program room, an expanded teen area, additional quiet study areas and a new area for the Friends of the Greece Public Library’s “Secondhand Prose” bookstore.
In addition, the library is installing an upgraded materials security system. This system includes two self-check units to provide an opportunity for patrons to facilitate their own transactions and account maintenance. Staff will be available to assist with their use and instruction.
Construction is expected to begin in January and continue until April 1. During this time, many library materials will be temporarily relocated. Please do not hesitate to ask library staff to assist in locating items. Also, the current quiet study area will be unavailable. Your patience and tolerance is appreciated during this extensive renovation project.
This link will be updated often to inform you of the progress of the construction as well as an interruption or reconfiguration of services. Thank you for your support of the Greece Public Library.

UPDATE: 3/11/2012

We have received many compliments and comments since reopening!

The new location for Adult Fiction includes a new Mystery section.  There are maps located at the Information Desk to identify where items are relocated.  Please do not hesitate to ask library staff for assistance.

The carpeting portion of the project is nearly complete.  The only remaining area to be carpeted is the new Teen Area and a portion of the non-fiction area.

The new Secondhand Prose Bookstore is progressing and the new entrance is visible.  Behind the curtain, shelving and drywall is being installed.

Please come in and enjoy the new seating arrangment by the fish tank.  The skylights offer excellent natural lighting and an enjoyable reading environment.

We reopen tomorrow morning at 9 am.  Nearly all services and materials are available.  However, all adult non fiction, biographies and local history items are unavailable for retrieval.  Librarians will do their best to locate materials online or at other Monroe County Library branches to meet your information needs in those areas.  Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

UPDATE: 3/1/2012

Since we closed for renovations, an extraordinary amount of progress has taken place.  The new fiction section is complete, 60% of the new carpeting is installed and an enormous amount of the collection is relocated.  Also, window cut outs for the new meeting room are completed and the accordian door separating the two new meeting rooms is installed.  That was loud!  In addition, a wall was taken down to begin constructing the entrance to the new bookstore.  Closing for this week allowed a significant amount of progress to take place that otherwise would take much longer with more interruptions to services if we remained open.  Thank you very much for your patience and understanding during this exciting time in Greece Public Library history.  Here are some photos highlighting what is unfolding this week:

UPDATE: Wednesday, 22 February

The new fiction area is developing nicely and will be available to the public in ten days.  As previously posted, it will be located in the former Quiet Study Area.

The large purple signs noting material locations (Movies, Book on CD, Large Print) and other information are removed.  They hung from the ceiling or were posted above service locations.  Please do not hesitate to ask staff for assistance in locating items or services.

The library will be closed from Sunday, 26 February through Friday, 02 March.  We reopen Saturday, 03 March.  Please return items in the drive up bookdrop located on the West side of the building.  Items can also be returned at any Monroe County Library.  Thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: 2/8/2012

Today there is a symphony of sounds typically associated with construction;  sawing, hammering and pounding.  The noise is concentrated in the southeast corner of the building but is heard throughout.  This is where the new meeting and programming rooms will be located. The noise is periodic and will stop around 5 o'clock this evening.  Thank you.
